Peter is one of the most solid Belgian players at the moment. Well known for his consistency in all PTQ he attends (finishing often 2nd last year), the quiet Peter is highly involved in the game. He plays and trains a lot with Pascal his brother and both are a force to be reckoned with. He attended already two PTs and usually makes good finishes in GP's ________________________________________ Hi, When did u start playing the game? Around the time of Planeshift/Apocalypse, but the first tournament was only several years later (a Darksteel prerelease).
Which aspect of the game makes you still playing after all these years? Competition, trying to get to Pro Tours. Your first tournament memories? I remember my first PTQ quite well. It was Champions of Kamigawa Limited. At some point I was 3-0 and getting really nervous because I was worried I'd make top 8 - I'd heard the format for the top 8 was "draft" and I didn't know how that worked. :-) Of course I screwed up really bad in the next couple of rounds (to the point where I apologized to my opponent for playing so bad - I still feel bad about Kitsune Healer's second ability).g g g Your first homebrew deck? My first pet deck (before Pascal and me started playing tournaments) was a white-blue-black deck with some 16 counterspells. My first tournament deck was for an Extended PTQ at the time of Ravnica (my second PTQ - Pascal and me were quite slow at getting started with tournaments). It was a discard deck: Duress, Cabal Therapy, Nezumi Shortfang, Ravenous Rats and Chittering Rats, coupled with Dark Confidant, Umezawa's Jitte and Shred Memory as a tutor. And it splashed blue for removal: Recoil! :-) Looking over that list I hope the metagame wasn't too heavy on aggro decks...

Your best deck ever in a tournament? The Loam Rock list that qualified me for Hawai this year. It was the only time ever (so far) I came to a Constructed event with the feeling that my deck was a full level above everyone else's and I really felt I was going to win it, despite having slept about half an hour, still being quite drunk, and misregistering my deck. Your all-time favourite card? Dark Confidant Style of play: Aggro/control/combo/agro-control/whatever: Control and aggro-control. What do you like the most in the game in itself? Building decks, drafting. What do you like the least about the game? Randomness. Where can we play with you? I'm not sure at this point. I'm likely to move in the near future, depending on where I find a job. Last year I drafted once or twice a week in Leuven, and I hope I can still show up there regularly. Because, really, the draft itself is only of secondary importance Player you respect the most in Belgium/Europe/World ? Belgium – Marijn. He always puts in the necessary work to test a format. I find it impressive that he still plays in M10 GPTs, although he obviously doesn't need the byes, and everyone else just says the format is so simple/random.Europe - Manuel Bucher. I don't know him personally but I tend to find his articles useful.World - PV. Same. Player you are afraid of playing in Belgium/Europe/World? I'm afraid of having to play against Pascal for eliminiation at some point. Miraculously, despite playing about a million PTQs together, we have never had to play against each other unless we were in a position to either concede or draw. Your worst experience (tournament, event)? I was quite upset about not making day two at GP Madrid. Pascal and me had actually done a lot of testing for the Sealed format (SHM/EVE) and I felt really good about it. Except for my first GP, this is the only one where I didn't make day two so far, and I really hated it. Which aspect is more important to you while playing Magic? Intuition/hard thinking/preparation? Hard thinking. My strongest point is being able to think long term, figuring out how I will eventually win the game. Is Magic a big part of your life or just a hobby? Pretty big... when I consider all the people I know through Magic, the places I've been to. What do you think of Modo? Did you play it a lot? Not that often. It's useful because you can draft whenever you feel like it. But I don't really enjoy it Are you a bad loser? Can you get really angry after a loss/bad play? Only when I lose to Pascal. :-) How do you prepare yourself for big competitions? Who do you test with? Do you often test? Having a brother with whom you can test any time is invaluable. (I guess that's why I don't need Modo.) Your favourite format? Limited/std/legacy? Why? Draft is simply the most fun format - you can do it a lot before it feels repetitive and it's skill-testing. I also like Extended a lot. There are so many options in that format - if you need a card for any specific function, it probably exists. Your best topdeck? Don't know. The singleton maindeck Darkblast against Elves was pretty good. Your worst “badbeat”? Don't know. What do you like the most in competitive play? Winning. :-) Your best trip abroad? Hawaii. Everyone who's been there says this but: I want to go back there. g Still playing in PTQ's? Yes (I just happened to miss all the Belgian PTQs this season due to vacations.) Tell us about your first pro tour, where did you qualify? My first PT was Yokohama; the PTQ was Extended in Gent. I played a WB aggro-control deck called Pet Cemetery.http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/protour/yokohama07 What did you play at this event? Which format was it? Time Spiral/Planar Chaos Block Constructed. I played a green-black Rock deck that splashed for Aeon Chronicler and Void. I went 4-4. You were part of the “Beach House” in Honolulu. How was that trip for you? See above. But especially the Kalalau trail was awesome; I have to thank Jan for that. How did you qualify? How did it go for you? How did you prepare for that event? I tried surfing. Who is the “new Belgian rising star”? People consider you and Pascal to be very talented and gifted at the game. What do you think of that? We have simply played the game a lot. It's just a huge advantage to learn it at every point together with someone of an equal level What do think of your performance at Nationals this year? Not much. I screwed up the second round and felt I got quite unlucky with my second draft deck. What were your results in standard and draft? 4-2 Standard, 3-0 and 0-3 drafts Who did you test with? Didn't really test much. Which deck did you play? Why? Elementals. It was the sort of deck I like: powerful, lots of card advantage, quite complex to play Any good story from the Nats? I guess my round two fuck-up is a good story. I had a Horde of Notions in play and I figured out he was going to Path to Exile it. So I was going to respond by returning a Reveillark to play; from the board situation I deducted his attacks for the next turn, my blocks, what I was going to bring back with Reveillark (Flamekin Harbinger and something else), what the Harbinger would fetch, what I was going to do in my turn... So he Paths, I RFG my Horde and grab my library.
What are your expectations in life? None Where do you see yourself in 5 years? No idea.Your favourite meal? Too many to name. Your favourite book? The Dark Tower by Stephen King Other interests in life? Hobbies? Sport? Indoor soccer Belgian players are usually.... Assholes!
Walloon players are usually.... Awesome!
